Butterflies and moths walk with David Howdon

9 July @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Calling all butterfly lovers and moth enthusiasts! Local lepidopterologist David Howdon is leading a walk on Horsenden Hill to see some of the resident butterflies and moths, such as White-letter Hairstreak and summer butterflies – including Marbled White and Purple Hairstreak – and the moths found in the moth trap from the previous night.

The Horsenden meadows are lush and teaming with insect life (as well as small mammals such as harvest mice, and birds of pray like barn owns and kestrels). The land has been managed so as to be a rich haven for animal and plant life as well as for human enjoyment, with a fantastic job done by Ealing’s ranger team. The ecological benefit of this approach is easily seen, including by the abundance of butterflies and moths that grace the local meadows and hills.

David is running this walk in conjunction with Ealing Wildlife Group and Butterfly Conservation. No booking is needed, just turn up ready for the start time of 9:30am. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sensible shoes for rambling on the hill. For emergency queries, contact David on 07508 544749.
