Guided Walk – The Chinese House
2 September @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am£5.00
Many years ago a small community lived and worked on Horsenden Hill in a cluster of buildings by what is now Horsenden Lane North. Cottages, village shops and a pub formed this long-gone cosy hamlet. One residence was intriguingly known as the Chinese House. Originally know as Rohais, then Bulawayo, Kwan yin and back to Rohais, what was the story behind these unusual names?
This fascinating walk takes us to the site of the former hamlet of Brabsden Green where we will learn more about the community and the way they lived, and discover clues and evidence that the area was settled; bricks, earthworks, fruit trees and cottage garden planting and the remains of pathways.
And maybe uncover some of the mystery of the Chinese House itself.
This is a gentle walk and will suit those who are reasonably fit. Regrettably it is not suitable for wheelchair access. Wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. The pathways may be muddy in parts.
Booking is essential. The walk cost £5 per person with all proceeds going to the Friends of Horsenden Hill.
